The National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) and the James Lind Alliance (JLA) are conducting a research priority setting exercise in Anaesthesia and Perioperative care.
Last year, you helped us publicise an initial survey to gather research suggestions from patients, carers, clinicians and all our partner organisations. We had a fantastic response and received nearly 1500 suggestions.
These responses have now been distilled to 93 ‘summary’ research questions. We are now performing a second survey asking respondents to choose their top 10 questions. For the findings to be representative, we need a good number of responses from a wide range of respondents. This survey is now live and can be accessed via our website at https://niaa.org.uk/PSPSurvey#pt and will remain open until the end of March. We will then tot up the scores, and the most popular 25-30 research questions will go through to our final prioritisation workshop.
We will be holding a Final Stakeholder Workshop on Tuesday 12th May at the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI). At this consensus meeting, representatives of our partner organisations will collectively agree a final top 10 list of research priorities.
We are inviting you to nominate a representative from your organisation to attend this event. This will be a whole day meeting (9:30am – 4pm) with refreshments and a break for lunch, and – most importantly – the chance to participate in selecting the final top ten priorities, and meet the team behind this project. Places are limited so please contact me as soon as you can to confirm attendance, and no later than Monday 2nd March.

Finally, many thanks for your support for this exercise so far, and we look forward to your involvement in these exciting final steps,
Best wishes and thanks on behalf of the Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care PSP Steering Group.
